Janel began employment with NAAP as a prevention specialist in October, 2007. She recently moved home this fall after living in the Phoenix metropolitan area for a number of years. Janel is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Janel is the daughter of Sidney R. Hopkins of Cannon Ball, ND and Cordelia Brings Three White Horses of Horse Creek community originally. Janel is a 1988 graduate of White River High School, White River, SD.
Janel completed her BS at Utah State University, Logan UT and is continuing her graduate studies at Sinte Gleska University. She plans to pursue her LPC-MH and become a therapist eventually. Janel has three children ages fifteen, twelve and two years old. Janel has worked as a liaison in a junior high school for the Native American Program, Mesa AZ and brings her experience working with youth groups to NAAP. Janel has also worked in the suicide prevention field as a child and adolescenet case manager and child and family team facilitator. Janels’ commitment to suicide prevention led to her work as a crisis phone specialist serving the Phoenix area up to her relocation to SD. Janel enjoys pow wows, rodeos, hiking, traveling to new places and watching Brothers and Sisters every Sunday night.
